NYC Facial FAQ
How often should I have a facial?
Since new skin cells need about 4 weeks to reach the surface, we recommend facials once per month. By waiting for the skin to completely rejuvenate, you’ll maximize the benefits of your facial. Of course, the amount of time between facials varies from person to person. A person with excellent skin may only need 3 to 4 facials a year, while a person trying to clear up acne might get a facial every few weeks for a couple months.
How should I prepare for my facial?
Facials require minimal preparation. Our pore extraction technique is designed to get maximum results with little-to-no redness and skin irritation. In male clients, removing excess stubble before your facial is helpful, although all men, even those with full beards, can benefit from facial treatment.
What happens during my facial?
We offer our clients a wide variety of facials to choose from. Facials last for 40 to 80 minutes and range from the new Collagen Boost Facial to our famous Geisha Facial. All facials are designed to cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize the skin. Shizuka combines modern technology with centuries-old techniques to provide her clients with the most effective, relaxing facials they’ll find anywhere. Which Shizuka New York spa facial is best for me?
If you are planning to visit our NYC day spa for the first time, we recommend the Signature Micro Facial (80 Minutes, $160) as an excellent starting point. The Signature Micro Facial is customized to all skin types and is appropriate for both men and women. During your facial treatment, our esthetic staff will be happy to recommend a personalized treatment course to deal with specific skin care issues.
Do you offer any facials for male clients?
Yes, we have mens spa facials available in our NYC day spa designed to clear, tone and hydrate male skin while treating common issues of shaving irritation, ingrown hairs and razor bumps. To read more about our spa facials for men, please visit our men's spa.
Can I have a facial during pregnancy?
Yes. In fact, acne often acts up as hormonal balances change over the course of a pregnancy. It is important to let your aesthetician know if you are pregnant, or think you might be pregnant. As a general rule, avoid products (and facials) that contain salicylic acid. Try our Omedeta Facial which uses all-natural, homemade products, or ask your aesthetician to omit salicylic acid from your facial treatment. We do not recommend having Photo Facials and treatment with Botox Cosmetic if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
