Eyelash Perms

Toss out that outdated eyelash curler!  An Eyelash Perm is a safe and effective way to keep your lashes curled and beautiful all the time. The technique, products and eyelash perm solution used in our NYC day spa are all imported directly from Japan, making Shizuka NY's a truly authentic Japanese eyelash perm. Our experienced technicians can can adjust the intensity of the curl to meet your needs. This procedure takes approximately 1 hour and the results generally last for 4-6 weeks, or the natural growth cycle of the eyelashes. What is an Eyelash Perm?

The eyelash perm procedure at SHIZUKA new york day spa uses custom-made rubber "rollers" that are gently affixed to the eyelids.  These rollers come in varying sizes, allowing the client to select from a range of super-curly eyelashes ("Betty Boop" style) to a more natural look.  The individual eyelashes are then curled over the rollers, and a permanent solution is applied.  Similar to the hair on your head, the solution allows the lash hairs to retain their curl for a period of 4-6 weeks.  Eyelash perms can dramatically open up the look of the eye area and give the appearance of longer and fuller lashes, even before mascara.

During the eyelash perm, which takes approximately 1 hour, you may lay back and relax and take in the sounds of our soothing spa music, or bring your own iPod. However, you will need to keep your eyes closed and relaxed for the duration of the treatment for the best eyelash perm results.

Is it safe to perm my lashes?

Yes.  Unlike many salons and spas offering Eyelash Perms in Manhattan, SHIZUKA new york imports its eyelash perming solution directly from Tokyo, Japan.  This particular eyelash perm solution is proven to work gently, yet effectively, on the lashes, creating a lasting curl without the risk of "frying" them.

Can I wear makeup or contacts during an Eyelash Perm?

We ask you to remove all eye makeup and contacts before your eyelash perm treatment at Shizuka New York.  This may be done at home or in our day spa (makeup remover and contact solution are available in our lounge area).

How should I care for my lashes after an Eyelash Perm?

Try to avoid wetting your lashes for a few hours after your eyelash perm.  We recommend applying Eyelash Conditioner to the lashes daily. Conditioning eyelash gel and mascara is available in the spa, by phone, and through our online store.  Using Eyelash Conditioner regularly will ensure that your lashes stay healthy.

Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash Extensions can add dramatic volume and length to thin and short lashes.  In a highly detailed process, extensions are adhered to individual lashes.  The slightly curved extensions create a natural and full look and are perfect for those who are tired of using mascara and eyelash curlers.  New eyelash extensions can require between 1.5 - 3 hours of treatment and the results will last between 1 and 2 months, depending on the individual.  Regular touch-ups help to maintain the look. How do eyelash extensions work?

The basic principle behind eyelash extensions is that individual lashes are applied to the natural lashes with an adhesive substance.  Because they are attached to natural lashes, eyelash extensions are not permanent.  They will eventually fall out according to the growth cycle of the natural lashes.  Because the extensions carry a slight curl, they will add volume and natural curl to the lashes.

Do I need to remove my eye makeup before having eyelash extensions?

Yes.  Please remove all eye makeup (especially mascara) as this will help the extensions to better adhere to the natural lashes.  SHIZUKA new york Spa also has eye makeup remover available in the lounge area.  Please come a few minutes early if you wish to remove your makeup in the spa.

Can I combine an eyelash perm with eyelash extensions?

No.  In the case of perming over extensions, the perm solution may dissolve or weaken the extension adhesive.  In the case of extensions over a perm, extensions may not adhere properly, and may result in an unnatural and undesirable look.

How long will my eyelash extensions last?

Extensions generally last 4-6 weeks, depending on the growth cycle of the lashes, and the level of maintenance.  Monthly touch-ups after the initial application of extensions help to maintain the look.  After having extensions, please avoid wetting the lashes (through showers and swimming) as much as possible.  In addition, try to avoid rubbing/scratching the lashes.  Do not use harsh makeup remover or eyelash curlers as this may cause the lashes to break, fall off, or bend.

Eyelash Tinting

Tinting the eyelashes is a quick and easy solution for those who depend on mascara to darken lightly-colored lashes. This treatment is perfect for men and women with blond, reddish, or light brown hair who want more clearly defined eyelashes.  Dyeing the eyelash hairs can dramatically enhance the look of the eye area and is great for those who don't have time for eye makeup. Similar to perming and extensions, results last up to 4-6 weeks, or the natural growth cycle of the lashes.

Can I combine eyelash tinting with an eyelash permanent?

We do not recommend combining these two treatments within the same service as it can compromise the strength of the lashes and risk breakage.  However, we are happy to tint already-permed lashes two weeks following the perm.

Can I tint my lashes and then add extensions?

There is no real need to dye the lashes before adding extensions, because the extensions will be darker than the natural hair color, and create the same effect.

How long will it take to tint my lashes?

It will take approximately 30 minutes to dye your eyelashes with tinting.

Can you make my eye lashes lighter in color?

No. We do not lighten or bleach eyelashes at Shizuka NYC Day Spa.

Does Shizuka New York also offer Eyebrow Tinting?

Yes. We are able to dye your eyebrows to match your eyelash tint creating greater definition in the eyebrows and lessening the need for products such as eyebrow mascara and eyebrow pencil. You are also welcome to combine eyelash tinting and eyebrow tinting within the same session.
